We have been asked if we can help re-home a Springer Spaniel.
The family now have children and are worried in case he bites them, although in fairness to the dog, he hasn’t been taught to behave appropriately around children. He has been sent to Grandma’s and is shut away when the children and grandchildren visit. I don’t yet have all his details and haven’t met him yet, all I have are these photos. He looks very sad. He will be checked over by a vet before re-homing.

[…] We now have some details on the Springer Spaniel in need of a new home. Toby is 10 years old, micro-chipped and castrated but has not been vaccinated since a puppy. He has arthritis, but isn’t currently receiving any treatment for it. He loves country walks but is nervous around crowds and traffic. He has never been taught to behave well around children and he once nipped a 2 year old child who was too close and in his face. He is now locked away when the family come to stay which is such a shame. With a little effort, he could have been taught to interact safely with children -- and the training is for the children as much as for Toby, his painful arthritis could be being treated, and he could have been socialised in different situations, making him more confident. Sounds like he is an inconvenience now they have got kids. How is he supposed to build a good relationship with children if he isn’t allowed to meet them? He looks depressed and is it any wonder if he gets shut away, -- he just needs some fun! Also (which may be dependant on his age) he looks a bit on the thin side to me. No doubt you will get more information as time goes by. Jx
