Most people will wipe their pets feet after a wet walk in the fields, but is it necessary to do more? Grass seeds, burrs, small stones and grit if picked up by your dogs’ feet on a walk can soon turn into lameness, sore places, cysts etc. Rinsing your dog’s feet in a bowl of warm water on your return from a walk will often release particles of grit etc. After the feet have been wiped dry, splay the foot out and feel with your fingers between the pads underneath for areas of inflammation or soreness. If the dog has started limping but you cannot find anything, then a trip to the vet might be needed. Better to be safe than sorry!
