Just what is the difference between a Pedigree puppy and a Kennel Club Registered puppy? Surely they are one and the same.
In an ideal world, yes, that would be true, but sadly we live in a less than perfect world. Kennel Club Registered puppies always have Pedigrees. Not all Pedigree Puppies are Kennel Club Registered.
Let me explain. The puppies Pedigree shows their parents, grandparents and so on – Names, Colours etc. a bit like genealogy.
The Kennel Club registers puppies from similarly registered parents (a puppy from un-registered parents cannot be registered with the Kennel Club even though they have a pedigree).
KC Registered puppies have been bred under Kennel Club guidelines. This includes breeding from the bitch no more than once a year – ie every second season. It is also recommended that breeding stock are checked for congenital disorders under Kennel Club Healthcare guidelines.
