At least 80% of pets are scared of fireworks, thunder etc, and noise phobias are a common problem. Normal levels of fear are natural – they protect us from harm. These may be managed by using Adaptil and Zylkene. A noise-phobic animal will start to panic at the first sign of a storm and their reaction will be extreme. Owners of these pets should consult their vet about prescription medication which can be used alongside Adaptil.
Adaptil is a synthetic copy of a natural hormone produced by lactating bitches to calm her puppies and is proven to have a calming effect on both puppies and adult dogs at stressful times. Plugging in an Adaptil diffuser or using a spray during the firework period or in a storm will help to reduce your dog’s fear response.

One of my neighbours has a noise phobic whippet, and, being a keen caravanner she opts to go to s site miles from anywhere, which doesn’t have a bonfire and fireworks!

Hi Anne.
just felt I’d to write a little regarding firework situation. I hate this build up to bonfire night and of course I still feel that retailers sell fireworks far too early, but there again, it seems firework displays are an all year round thing nowadays. Some dogs are terrified. People ask me to house-sit whilst they go out for a few hours as, due to the loud bangs and sky been lit up, their dogs can’t cope. My way is to close curtains/blinds put tv or radio on as loud as I dare (regarding neighbours!). It’s rather like a prison by the time I’ve done! People must try everything as anything is worth a try.
