Apparently our neighbour around the corner had bought the bunny.  It had escaped from it’s cage and somehow found it’s way into our garden.  It was spotted by a man and his daughter, who put it in the box, and, thinking it was ours, left it in our porch.  It had become very cold and flopsy, and although we tried to warm it up, we couldn’t get it to liven up and eat, so we took it to our vet yesterday.  They said it was dying, and so put it to sleep.  A sad ending, but at least the baby is not suffering.
