Following on after the dog poisoning incidents at Seamer, near Scarborough, see http://www.heronbank.co.uk/2011/07/2364/ the results of tests on the dogs who tragically died show high levels of Cyanobacteria, found in a blue/green algae found in the lake.
Yorkshire Wildlife Trust are urging visitors and their pets to stay out of the water.

Yes, please keep your pets, kids, yourselves OUT of the water. I came into contact with algae 8 years ago in Bewl Reservoir in Kent and after a series of serious and mysterious conditions am now disabled.
