Hettie 6 monthsHettie is now 6 months old and has graduated into a new collar.

Puppies grow rapidly and it is necessary to check their collars for the correct fit on a weekly basis.

You should be able to slip two fingers under the collar comfortably, if not, loosen the collar at once.

When you switch collars, remember to switch the identity disk over too! It would also be good to check that the disc is easily readable, if not then for the sake of a few pounds get a new one.

I have known occasions where an owner has neglected to do this and the collar had tightened to the point of needing to be cut off. Any tighter than this and the collar could embed itself in the dog’s neck and then it becomes a serious welfare issue.

collard and leads

We bought our new collars and leads from Ruby Spaniel Designs and are absolutely delighted with them!

They can be customized with wording (not the dogs name please!), telno, and even a picture of your breed and colour, which are really cute!

We even have them colour coordinated, blue for boys, pink for girls!
