At just over 3 weeks old, Cyda’s puppies are doing really well. They are now finding their feet instead of dragging themselves around. Their eyes are starting to focus and they are beginning to look around.
When puppies are new-born, they are unable to perform toilet functions without help from their mothers who lick them to stimulate their bodily functions and keep them clean.
As they get older, they start to gain a little independence in this regard. So, I’ll start toilet training them this week. What! At just over 3 weeks!
Actually, all that is involved is, when they are lifted out for a blanket change, – around 6 times a day at present! – they’ll be placed onto a toilet training pad – I use bed-pads for children – (newspaper works too!) and they will learn that the feel of the toilet pad or newspaper means it’s time to “go”. Then as they get older they will (hopefully) seek out a training pad when they need it.
Hopefully when they leave us for their new homes at 8 weeks, they’ll be well on their way to be house-trained.
