Most of us have at some point heard of the horrors of Puppy Farming, and no-one would knowingly buy a puppy from a puppy farm, but how can we identify them? In the old movies, the good guys wore white and the bad guys wore black.  Not so with Puppy farms who on the face of it can appear to be reputable breeders – the lines can become blurred at times.  Just how can the average person or the first time dog buyer tell the difference?

Meet Crystal …

Crystal is 10 years old. She was an ex breeding bitch for a puppy farm. She was rescued from there four years ago by a gentleman who sadly has now died. His carer sought help for her through Heronbank. I would have been surprised to find no health issues.

If you buy a puppy or kitten from one of these places, you will be storing up heart-ache for yourselves and your family. Legislation against such organisations has not worked in the past. The only reliable way to shut them down is not to buy a puppy or kitten from them – you are helping them make space for the next “batch”.

Irish puppy trafficking bid foiled

The Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) said this brought the total number of pups seized to 92 in just three days. Chief executive Brian Gillen warned people buying a puppy to be vigilant against trafficking.
