We are buying a ruby male cavalier king charles spaniel. The breeder rang today to say he had his vet check and all was good only one of his testicles still haven’t dropped. He’s 7 and a half weeks old. Do you think it will still drop or could it be a problem. Thank you.
Retained testicles (mono or cryptorchidism) can certainly drop later, but may not do so and could lead to testicular cancer. If the testicle hasn’t descended by 6 months then most veterinarians will advise castration, and I would go along with that.
Teddy, who is also a ruby male, didn’t have both testicals in place until he was about 5 months old, and then all of a sudden, there they both were, just in time for them to be taken off two months later. I wouldnt worry at this early stage, but our vets gave us exactly the same advice as Anne.
