Cyda’s puppies are now in their first full day of life. All appear to be strong and are of a good size.
At this point in time the best we can do is to keep Cyda supplied with an endless stream of meals and drinks. As she has 5 puppies, (round the number up to 6 for the purposes of calculating food intake) and it’s 1 meal for each pair of puppies, 6 puppies = 3 meals, plus 1 meal for Cyda = 4. These will include calcium (milk and cheese), protein (meat, fish and eggs) plus Burns Mini Bites which is high in protein and all the good things she needs (moistened as she needs the extra liquid to feed her puppies).
Apart from that, they need warmth (a heat-pad is underneath their blanket) and clean, dry bedding. This needs to be changed several times a day – I find that vet-bed is really good, as any moisture is drawn through to the back of the blanket, away from the puppies.
